Today Linkedin has 50+ million business professionals engaging each other daily for both B2C and B2B interaction. The ultimate goal usually is to generate leads for our respective businesses. While some of the other reasons maybe to seek out expert advice, joint ventures, and new opportunities. One thing that continues to amaze me is how much time many professionals spend on Linkedin and never outline a specific plan to generate leads.
Why would any business professional set aside time for Linkedin without a plan on how to generate leads, new opportunities or at least know the “why” behind what they are doing? If you happen to be a seasoned sales professional like me, you know that you cannot go very long doing something that is not going to generate positive results to the bottom line. Otherwise it ends up affecting the pocket book negatively.
Here are five tips to make sure you are making the most of your time on Linkedin to generate quality leads:
1. Identify your target market and where they are on Linkedin and spend your time “only” their. (Examples are which groups are they a part of? Which Q & A sections will they be participating in?..)
2. Engage people Monday through Thursday, most people are checked out Friday through Sunday. This means do not waste your time on the weekends, these are business professionals who use Linkedin during the week.
3. Write a compelling headline of what you do on your profile since this is the first thing people see when you participate in discussions and Q & A.
4. Schedule a set amount of time everyday to Linkedin, otherwise you may get lost in the social space spending countless hours on unproductive things.
5. Bring value to the groups you belong to and watch people seek after you as an industry expert.
