Twitter STATS That Matter

Last month I heard  on CNN that Twitters new member signups had dropped off its pace and was leveling out.  Yet after seeing this report from Pingdom, maybe Twitter doesn’t have a growth problem after all. According to Pingdom, Twitter saw an all-time high of more than 1.2 billion tweets in January. Twiter CEO Evan Williams also said last month that the site was hitting records “across all the metrics that matter.”

The reports show that tweet volume grew by 16 times from January 2009 to January 2010. Within the past three months, tweet volume has grown at around 17 percent. Which would leave one to conclude that maybe people are going deeper into the conversation and engagement process with connections.

While many people question the validity of using Twitter for Business, the data lends to the fact that companies should pay more attention to this space.

  • Randy - great post.

If you go into Twitter focused, you get focused results. I have connected with and reconnected with people very quickly. I have found resources, built relationships, and gotten business done via Twitter. I'm not backing down.

    Rock On!

  • Randy,

Thanks for posting this information. Twitter is a great tool for locating individuals and organizations that you may find value in communicating with. At the end of the day, Twitter will enable you to identify these resources, but it typically comes down to inter-personal, relational, networking and sales skills to build and sustain business relationships with these resources. As you very well know, the whole, "let's get a gazillion followers on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter and the clouds will part and money will fall out of the sky" thinking is as naive as the person who thinks it.

    It's always about sincere relationships.

Thanks for all your great content. Have I mentioned lately that you rock?!

    To your success,
    Kev

I have only been with Twitter for a few months and am still learning the ropes but I find it much more engaging than FB. No eggs hatching or calfs being born and I don't get poked and kissed on Twitter. Just about all the Tweets I read pass the "so what" test.
